Barbara Ann Brooks

Barbara Ann Brooks, 55, Clyde, Ohio, died Sept. 8, 2017 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness leaving behind many family and friends who will miss her caring and merciful soul.

She was born in Sandusky, the daughter of Bonnie (Fry) and Norman Brooks.

She graduated in 1979 from Perkins High School, Sandusky, and from the Sandusky Practical School of Nursing in Sandusky with her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1980. She received her Registered Nursing Degree in 1984 from Hocking Technical College, Nelsonville, Ohio.

She began working as a candy striper for Good Samaritan Hospital in Sandusky while in high school and was hired as an LPN at the same hospital immediately after receiving her LPN certification. Barbara continued working for the hospital as it went through name changes to become Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. She retired from Firelands RMC in 2014 after 34 years due to illness and disability.

Much of her work experience was spent working in the Emergency Room at Firelands.

Barbara served as a 4-H leader for clubs in Sandusky and Seneca counties for over a decade. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Vickery, where she had been co-chairwoman of the church’s community food pantry, served as parish nurse and volunteered on numerous committees. As parish nurse and on her own, she voluntarily cared for family and friends who needed medical care at home during her career.

 Before becoming disabled, she competed for many years in Seneca and Sandusky county fairs winning blue ribbons and taking first places honors for her various baked goods and pies.

After her retirement, Barbara served as an administrator in recent years of several Facebook groups including the Clyde-Green Springs Area News and Bellevue Ohio Area News, where she posted obituaries of local and past residents in those communities.

Surviving are her father; her sister, Rebecca Brooks of Clyde with whom she resided; a sister Roberta (Roy) Weisz, Clyde;  stepmother Penny Brooks; a step-sister Mindy (Dave) Polanco, Sandusky; step-brothers Kevin (Linda), Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Don Eck, Sandusky; and step brother-in-law Dan Clemens, Sandusky. Also surviving are her niece, Jeanette Weisz, Toledo; two nephews, Charles (Tricia), Perrysburg, and David (Courtney Blymyer), Clyde; and step-nephews and nieces plus great nephews and nieces; her Good Shepherd Church family and dear friends – Pat (Ortner) Frankart and Diane Knoll.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie; stepmother Sue; step-sister Jill Clemens and her maternal grandparents Dorothy and Willard Fry and paternal grandparents, Gertrude and Ward Brooks.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1320 County Road 268, Vickery, with the Rev. Jeanette M. Thorp officiating.

Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Highway, Clyde, and one hour before the funeral service Monday at the church.
